Today marks a special day in the history of The Change Source.
It’s with great excitement that I announce the official launch of the Online Change Management Academy – a global learning platform and community dedicated to reducing the 70% change project failure rates one project at a time.
We’re going to start deliberately, with a deep intention for sustained change management community-building. You have an opportunity to be an early adopter and be with us on this journey from the beginning.
Before I tell you more, I want to go back to the beginning of this journey…
I. How it All Started…
Once upon a time, I was an idealistic and naïve fresh graduate thinking I was going to change the world as soon as I entered the workforce. I graduated from Lancaster University in the UK armed with a degree in Business Management and landed my first job working for Accenture as a Management Consultant in 2020.
I got quite a shock when I joined and found out that Accenture predominantly focusses on large scale IT implementations, something I knew nothing about. The three week induction course in Visual Basic coding terrified me, but thankfully I managed to befriend the IT gurus for a little extra help to get me up to speed. I had just moved to London and was excited to be able to work in one of the most vibrant places in the world when 2 weeks into my induction training I was told that I would be sent to Newcastle to work for the Department for Work and Pensions on a large scale CRM project. The blood drained from my face as I thought: “This isn’t what I signed up for!”
I spent the first few months in the PMO trying to get myself up to speed with what was going on – I was sitting down with senior project managers asking them for updates on risks and issues that I could barely understand – it was a very steep learning curve as I tried to learn hundreds of terms and acronyms! Eventually I moved into the testing team and started to understand the CRM system in more detail, this was the first chance I got to work side by side with the client and understand their concerns about the new system and what it would mean for them. At the time, I didn’t realise this was my first insight into the world of Change Management, I just loved helping people to get a better understanding of what we were trying to achieve and making sure that they felt like they could contribute and had a voice.
I continued backwards through the V-Model lifecycle from testing to build to design of Oracle Siebel CRM systems and I was lucky enough to work in the UK, US, Taiwan and Australia. However, something was missing….I remember one particular role where I was forced into coding some part of a CRM solution and my appalling coding skills managed to crash the test environment for an entire weekend, I hardly slept trying to fix it and at that point I realised that technical IT implementation just wasn’t aligned to my skills.
When I left Accenture in 2020 I joined Hedra a small consultancy focussed on business consulting rather than IT consulting and I finally started to feel like I was moving in the right career direction. They were acquired by Mouchel shortly after I joined and this gave me a chance to be part of a merger and also get some more international experience in Abu Dhabi. This is when I really found my calling working on Change Management; we were responsible for embedding a new Knowledge Management Framework across an organisation of 5,000 people. I became Prosci Change Management certified, attended my first ACMP Global Conference and never looked back.
After 5 years working on various projects in Abu Dhabi I took the leap of faith to start The Change Source as a niche Change Management consultancy focussed on providing consulting support and educating anyone involved with managing change. I thought: “If failure rates of change are so high, how can I contribute to increasing knowledge and awareness of this very important topic?”

II. Online Change Management Academy Launches – April 2020
When you’re doing something innovative, revolutionary or up-and-coming in an organisation, it’s easy to feel isolated. Like nobody gets it. I know this all too well. Like a lot of people working to implement change, I spent way too much time trying to figure it out all by myself.
You don’t have to do this work alone. We’re building a learning community that gets it. I want to support as many people as possible and the only way to do this is through an online platform.
